Clouded Waters (From Many Waters) - The Story
Well I was working on Many Waters, I spent a lot of time reading stories and watching films. I wanted to find and explore some new ideas for my music. One of the films I ended up watching was the sort animated film "The 21" I heard it mentioned in a podcast and was immediately intrigued. The film being about 21 Coptic Christian who where martyred for the faith in 2015. After watching this film I was immediately inspired, I do want to approach such a topic with care, yet sometimes it is those extreme stories that bring extreme inspiration. I would go on to make a number of songs and music pieces directly inspired by there story. One work was the three movement piece from the Many Waters album. The titles fall the story, the music serving as a musical telling of the story. Full of tension, trembling, raw fear, and finally a rising heavenly finale movement. My thoughts seemed to go with them, for us, hearing the story, it end in a horrible, gruesome, death. Yet being one of them the story doesn’t end yet. They enter the afterlife, the space beyond. We can only imagine there entrance into paradise! In sort the story from worldly terms ends in darkness, yet for them it ends in the most amazing light. This is the journey portrayed in music. Almost every single track from the album has a story behind it. I've left out telling the story till now.
